About

Maureen Aliani, OTR/L, ATP

I have been an Occupational Therapist in pediatrics for 25 years, working with a wide variety of students. I am also an Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) and a Chromebook Accessibility Expert.

I have experience with lots of different and diverse ability levels and needs, with students from early intervention to 21 years.

I moved to the Syracuse area from Long Island in 2010. (Yes, I miss bagels and pizza!) While living on Long Island, I worked at the Henry Viscardi School, where I learned about and worked with a ton of assistive technology. I really fell in love with assistive technology at my first pediatric job at UCP Queens while working with a student with Spinal Muscular Atrophy with a micro light switch.

Why Assistive Technology?

I fell in love with assistive technology because of how powerful it can be; finding the right person-technology interface can unlock a world of possibilities. Assistive tech can be a game-changer for students with learning difficulties and different learning styles. It is essential to find the right technology to help students in the general education classroom setting access content and curriculum.

There is an overwhelming amount of assistive tech to help students. Assistive Tech Geeks wants to help students and their educational teams find the right fit to maximize student potential and make learning fun.

I started Assistive Tech Geeks to increase independence and improve access to assistive technology for people with diverse abilities. I work with children and adults to find the best technology for their needs, to assist with communication, mobility, reading, writing, accessing and completing school work — and entertainment!
